Resume of Roger Scrafford

Work Experience

Since 1988 I've been involved with computer hardware and software at home, as a consultant, and for a large and shapeless bureaucracy somewhere in the Puget Sound region of Washington State. This affords me the opportunity to work with a wide array of computer workstations and servers, desktop and network operating systems, and the PC, Mac, and Linux platforms and network protocols normally found in such a heterogeneous environment.

My writing and editing experience includes being an English Composition instructor (Oregon State University and UW), the founding editor of an obscure Oregon weekly journal of arts and entertainment, and a technical and specification writer in the fields of computing and electrical engineering.

Most recently I served as Technical Editor and Writer on the Microsoft Press Networking Essentials 3rd Edition project. I'm beginning work on another Microsoft Certification book, which has an April, 2000 deadline.

Education

My writing and editing education consists of a BA in English Literature with a minor in Technical Journalism, and two years of grad school.

Personal Information

At home I make do with a network consisting of a Linux box running an Abit BP6 main board with two 400MHz Celerons, and an Asus/Pentium machine running Windows 2000. These machines maintain a full-time internet connection through a dedicated firewall.

In what free time I have, I play guitar and mandolin. My most recent public performance was in the Lake Union Civic Orchestra's production of Virgil Thompson's "The Plow That Broke the Plains."
